A scaphoid fracture is a type of wrist fracture that occurs most commonly from a fall on the outstretched hand. As undisplaced scaphoid fractures are sometimes difficult to see on X rays you may not know you have one until 2 to 3 weeks later and many people can confuse this with a sprain. It is important to treat scaphoid fractures as during the injury the nutrient blood vessels feeding the scaphoid may be damaged especially if the fracture has moved leading to long term changes that may affect the kinematic of your wrist.
