Dr. Negru has changed my life! I was beginning to believe I would have to live with a disability, with very limited movement in my injured right arm. I couldn’t do the things one takes for granted, like brushing my hair. Yet Dr. Negru thankfully corrected a very poor surgery I had suffered in another hospital. He restored a great deal more flexibility, and range of movement. Also, I now live without constant pain. I’ve had an amazing experience. Thank you Marius Negru!

Procedure: Right Elbow Reconstructive Surgery
‘Dr.
Thank you Marius Negru!’
Background
Some six months ago, Isabel suffered a very bad fall in the street with her right elbow absorbing the impact and the full weight of her body. Her elbow was very significantly damaged. Not only was the elbow dislocated, and the ligaments torn and broken, but the bones fractured as well. She was taken to a local hospital and had reconstructive surgery. Her arm was put back in its natural position and placed in a cast. Yet a few weeks later, when the cast was removed, Isabel knew something was very wrong.
She explains, ‘my elbow was as if it was still in the cast! It was frozen, I could hardly move it. When I tried to move it, I was in so much pain!’
Isabel was told by her original traumatologist to continue to try and move it, and to work at regaining mobility. ‘I tried to move it, but I just couldn’t bare the pain. The pain would wake me up at night. I persevered for two weeks, but I wasn’t seeing much change. I went back to the traumatologist who didn’t empathise at all, and just said that I would have to adapt to this pain and limited movement. I was told there was nothing more they could do.
Potential Disabilty
I was beginning to feel quite down. It’s depressing to have to adjust to living with a disability – to adjust to how life can change so quickly. This injury was to my right arm – I used it all the time, and normal mobility was essential for my work as I use a PC. If I could not regain mobility my life would have changed forever.
Thankfully, my family supported me, and I felt confident to get an alternative professional opinion.
Using my private medical insurance, I visited the Specialist Medical Clinic in Gibraltar, and I had a consultation with Dr. Marius Negru. As soon as he saw me he told me that he recognised that something was really wrong. The hospital x-ray I had only showed the elbow fractures, so Dr. Negru quickly arranged for me to have an MRI and CT imaging.
When I went back again shortly afterwards to review the new images, Dr. Negru explained that I had suffered very poor reconstructive surgery. There were fragments of bone in amongst the ligaments – these were causing the agonising pain I was experiencing and stopping me from regaining mobility.
A new, private surgery with Dr. Negru was swiftly scheduled at the HC Marbella Hospital.
New Hope
This was when I regained my hope, my optimism. Dr. Negru gave me that!
He was very straight forward with me; he managed my expectations about what level of mobility I might regain. He said that even with a better outcome I might not regain full mobility. But I felt very optimistic; I knew I had met a professional that cared and wanted to make things better for me.
It was a three hour surgery where Dr. Negru reconstructed the elbow, removed the bone fragments, and realigned the ligaments. Cameras were inserted in my arm during the procedure.
Dr. Negru explained that it was a complex procedure, that included right elbow arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) and debridement, LUCL repair, lateral column procedure and posterior band of MCL release.
Dr. Negru later told me that my elbow would never have healed in the state it was left by the other surgeon.
I have to say when I came around and saw the size of the scar I knew it had been a significant op.
But I had finally received the care and skill that I should have received immediately after my accident!
Positive Outcome
I am so happy I have met Dr. Negru. He has given me my life back. The physiotherapy at HC Hospital was great too (Dr. Negru checked that the programme suggested suited my needs) and I continued with outpatient physio.
My arm now has a natural position. It is not obvious that I can’t get it completely straight but with a year or two more it will extend more I am sure.
Most importantly, my mobility is back!
I can use my arm properly now, I can touch my shoulder – I can do whatever I need to do, and it doesn’t hurt! Even that big scar is nearly gone now.
This has been an amazing experience. I am so happy to offer this testimonial for Dr. Marius Negru, as I want others to know that there is often hope, and it’s really worth getting another professional opinion.
